Dem-Bas, a producer of custom and eco-friendly packaging for footwear, apparel, the cosmetics industry, supermarkets, and promotional companies, was recertified by Origem Sustentável on February 3. The certification was presented at the company’s headquarters in Novo Hamburgo, RS, and was attended by the company’s board of directors and representatives from the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Artifacts (Assintecal).
Guilherme Marasciulo, the company’s director, emphasized that the certification is a key competitive advantage. He believes the Origem Sustentável seal confirms Dem-Bas’s commitment to the environment and to ESG principles. “We’ve noticed that customers are looking for certified companies because they want to add value to their products. There is a lot of price competition in the market among industries in the same segment, and in these cases, the certificate becomes the differentiator,” he said.
The company uses solar energy and its primary raw material is TNT (non-woven fabric), which has a much shorter decomposition time compared to other products and can be recycled. The company also uses water-based inks, without any solvents or chemical products. “In addition, the small amount of waste we have in our manufacturing process is returned to produce raw material, which means new packaging,” said Marasciulo.
Silver Level
Dem-Bas received an upgrade, achieving Silver level recertification from Origem Sustentável. This certifies that the company meets more than 40% of the program’s 104 indicators. Founded in 1989, Dem-Bas produces more than 30 tons of packaging each month.
